RUSSELL  PLAYS  FOR  UNITED …

Russell  supported Oxfam’s East Africa Appeal by appearing at Celtic Park on Tuesday 9th August 2011 when Celtic and Manchester United “Legends” played a charity game to raise funds for, and awareness of, the famine in the Horn of Africa.

We only found out about it ourselves in a very roundabout way, via Japan!    As it turned out, he sang Nessun Dorma before the kick-off and then went and got changed into a red United shirt – No 21 – and sat in the dug-out as a “substitute”. :
:
He got his fifteen minutes of fame when he was sent on as a ‘sub’ and did well to defend against a Celtic attack, clearing the ball back to mid-field before being recalled. Still, it fulfilled a boyhood dream… actually playing for Manchester United alongside the likes of Roy Keane.

The scoreline really didn’t matter.   It was the game that counted and the publicity generated for the appeal.
